i was about 23 years old. athletic and physically fit. upon a routine medical examination
it was found that my blood pressure was very high (200/120).
all routine medical tests reveal no cause for the elevated bp. i was admitted to hospital for about 3 weeks whereby more complex tests were undertaken. it was discovered that my right
adrenal gland was overactive; secreting too much aldosterone; as a consequence the body was retaining fluids/salts and thus elevating my bp. both glands at the time were physically the same in size. yearly cat scans were done on both glands. 5 years later the cat scan showed a growth (tumor) on the right gland. i chose to have both the gland and tumor surgically removed. the tumor was benign, as expected by my doctors. within a few days my bp fell to normal levels. prior to the operation it was impossible for medication to bring the bp down to normal levels. i am now 50 years old. i have an annual medical examination. i still see the same specialist. this condition is also known as conn's syndrome.
